Infant River Otter
|
This little orphaned river otter was brought to us by Brevard County Animal Services on January 20th, 2004. Her mother was killed by a pack of dogs up in Cocoa. She came in weighing less than a pound and a half. Because it is not in the best interest of any orphan wildlife to be raised by themselves, we transferred her to a rehabilitation center on Sanibel Island called C.R.O.W. (Care and Rehabilitation of Wildlife). We visited crow several years ago, they have a great otter habitat and had 3 orphans that this little girl could grow up with.
Yes, it was hard to see her go, but we knew we had to do the right thing. Sanibel Island is about a 6 hour drive, but luckily, one of our rehabber friends, Dianna with the Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland was happening to be going right past there. We drove the otter to Maitland where we met up with Dianna and she safely delivered the otter to her new friends.
