PHEW!
Florida Wildlife Hospital may soon be a little more aromatic, thanks to 3 little stinkers that have joined our other patients.  We recently admitted 3 juvenile eastern spotted skunks.  They weighed only about 50 grams when admitted, but with a special blend of 2 different kinds of animal formula, and some other good food, they rapidly began gaining weight.  However, when fully grown, they will be much smaller than striped skunks.  Both species of skunks are found in Florida, but the smaller spotted skunks are more commonly seen in Brevard County.  Hopefully our timing will be good, and we will have them weaned and into an outdoor cage before they realize that they can spray.  Release time is a challenge, as we will have to try to persuade all 3 to go into a pet carrier to be transported to a release site without annoying them enough that they spray.
