We can't do what we do without Volunteers!
The first steps towards volunteering with the Hospital begins with completing an application which can be found in the top right corner of this page.
Below is our current New Volunteer Orientation and training schedule for the 1st half of 2019. These dates are subject to change and applicants will be notified if orientations or training days need to be changed.
You must apply online and reply to the confirmation e-mail to receive reservations prior to attending orientation.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and minors are required to have a signed parent-permission form on file prior to starting to volunteer. An up-to-date tetanus shot is advised but not required.
New volunteers will need to attend one 3 hour training day after attending orientation. Volunteers are requested to commit to at least 3 hours of volunteer service each time they come in. Typical shifts are 9:00am - 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 4:30pm. Students are required to do a minimum of 20 hours. We are not able to accept any Pre-trial Diversion or Court Ordered Community Service at this time.
NOTE: Returning volunteers who have not volunteered in the past 4 months, please fill out an application and you will need to attend the next orientation to return to active status. You will not be required to pay the initial $20 fee again.
Our facility runs on volunteers and Florida Wildlife Hospital volunteers are a special breed. They give up their time and are rewarded with rich experiences. We hope to provide experiences that make the giving of your time worthwhile and enriching. Your opportunities to learn about our native wildlife while volunteering are endless.
There are many jobs that are undertaken by our volunteers to aid in the smooth operation of the hospital and care of the animals. Volunteers help with the daily washing of crates, dishes and laundry, as well as general facility cleaning such as vacuuming and mopping. They also help with mail-outs, prepare food, feed animals, walk turtles, and keep cages and baskets clean.
Volunteers play a big part in our fundraising efforts and events: from T-shirt and Raffle ticket sales to working with our Animal Ambassadors and educating the public.
We welcome volunteers age 16 and up. Parking is limited at our facility, so we suggest you arrive about 15 minutes early to be sure you are ready to start on time. There is a $20.00 registration charge which will be collected at orientation. This fee will include your orientation, a FWH T-shirt, and eventually, your permanent name tag once you qualify.
Please wear closed-toed shoes & comfortable clothing to the volunteer orientation session. Orientation lasts for about an hour and a half. Orientations are held on site at Florida Wildlife Hospital.
